Overview

This is a hands-on technical course will cover the processing of bathymetric sonar data in the latest version HIPS and SIPS software.

As well as covering established techniques the workshop covers new concepts in data processing currently being adopted by the global hydrographic community. You will learn how the latest technological advancements like total propagated error (TPE), navigation surfaces (BASE) and combined uncertainty and bathymetric estimator (CUBE) can be utilized to gain optimum processing results in the CARIS HIPS and SIPS software.

The training will follow the full workflow for processing bathymetric data, including:

• Vessel Configuration Files
• Navigation and Motion corrections
• Applying corrections for Tide and Sound Velocity
• Total Propagated Error
• CUBE Surface and Area Based Hypothesis Editing
• 3D Visualization and Editing
• Plotting and Fairsheet Creation
• Sonar Imagery Corrections
• Identification of Contacts
• Mosaic Creation

Prerequisites

No previous experience with HIPS and SIPS is necessary however a basic understanding of hydrography is assumed for all course attendees.
